The Flip Side of Love.

We all crave the fairy tale, the happily ever after. We often imagine that we’d meet someone and suddenly our world would be only in beautiful colors.

Over time, it’s been fed to us that it should be that way. Well, why not?!

We think we’d be happy all the time and smiling from ear to ear, just bursting with joy and the butterflies in our tummies would be constantly summersaulting.

We’d burst a move in the corner of the street to no music cos why not? Love feels good, right?

Close enough to reality but it isn’t always like that. Life isn’t a bed of roses… they say.

Even roses have thorns…

Love is sacrifice…

Love is sometimes letting go of the one your heart desires; possibly they love another, wrong timing, inconsistencies and whatnot.

Yet, to love any other; as selfish as it may seem, we have to first completely love ourselves.

Love is Pain…

I have always felt it safer to love people from afar. It’s just less complicated that way; no confrontations, no rejections.

But, if you avoid confrontations, then you never really get to know a person and so how then can you claim to love them for who they truly are?

People would hurt you over and over again. Family, most especially but you know what they say; “blood is thicker than water” but emotional bonds are stronger.

Some say, “I love you because you are my brother” but do you actually know or care about what makes your brother happy?

Love shatters walls and crosses boarders. The only true bond is the bond of love.

I love you.

I love you because…

Most times, we love for/with a reason. “I love her because she makes the best meals. I love him because he makes provides for me. I love you because…

Love is the ultimate. Love is the greatest… but even God’s love, as simple as it is, can seem quite complicated if we think too deeply about it.

Over time, God’s love has become debatable when we see an innocent child fall ill and die. When bad things happen to good people, we ask; “why Lord? Did you not love them enough?

So many questions for the Almighty… to which only He has the answers.

Love is not selfish…

We give because we love. The flip side? We may not be receiving and may just be draining ourselves.

A parent who feels it’s right to lock their kids in because they want to protect them and because they “love” them only ends up depriving that child of the necessary social skills he/she ought to have.

“Love”… how wrongly we portray it.

When would we begin to love without conditions?

Loving despite…

I love you despite the fact that you have wronged me on several occasions. I love you despite how terribly you’ve failed. I love you despite your mistakes and past.

What scares me is dying without having lived. Some days I think I could die at any moment and no one would have truly known my heart or good intentions.

Many know of me but how many really know me? And if you don’t know me; how can you say you love me, truly?

The ultimate flip side of love is that despite how much we try, many of us actually do not know how to love another completely.

May we find the grace to love purely. Sending love your way this day & always!!!
